We want to thank all the good folks at the Yazoo County Convention and Visitors Bureau
for their support and for the use of the auditorium. We say to Mr. Bob Bailey, “ Thank you so
much for you tireless efforts in getting the new launch at Wolf Lake.” We plan to make good
use of that boat ramp for a long time.

Beautiful weather, gorgeous water color, excited participants, fish biting; it can’t get any better for a
Championship tournament setting. This tournament was probably the most anticipated end-of-the-year
event we have ever had since I joined the MCC back in 1996.The enthusiasm was remarkable. Wolf Lake
has become one of MCC’s favorite places to fish. On practice day everyone caught fish; some bigger
than others. I overheard several teams boasting that they would take first Place with their eyes closed;
just go ahead and write us the check they said.

The teams that were on big fish kept their mouths shut, knowing it might not be as simple as the
boasters predicted. We all know the bragging and ribbing is a big part of the fun we have at the
Championship Week. One fine unsuspecting team went their merry way to the big slabs on day one. With
confidence in their bigger, more experienced boat, this team set out to hammer the big mamas and take
control. Finishing   only four hundredths out of first place, they knew if day two was as productive, a win
was a good possibility. The Good Lord smiled on these fellows on day two allowing them to finish less
than a pound out of first place.
Congratulations to Bobby Clark and Doug Hollingsworth on an
outstanding job! Who said you’ve got to win day one or day two to be the Champs? Fellows , ya’ll did
great! Remember, neither Bobby nor Doug pre-fished this lake all week. Because of work and family
obligations, neither of these fellows made the kick-off meeting. We know both Bobby and Doug are
expert fishermen. Whether this was skill or luck; we’ll leave that up to the pundits. One things for sure,
these boys beat the pants off some really good fishermen.

Congratulations to Eric Jacobson and Bobby Fortenberry on Big Fish of the tournament. Eric
and Bobby are rookies, but they have figured out that tournament fishing is catching seven big ones.
Congratulations, again fellows, ya’ll done real good!

Congratulations to George Walker and Johnny Hannah on winning day one. May be George
finally listened to Johnny or vise-versa, nevertheless they got it together. Fellows, ya’ll did good;
Congratulations again!

Don and Herman strutted their stuff on day two bringing in almost an average pound and a half creel.
Nobody fished any harder than these fellows. Their hard work paid big dividends.
Congratulations to
Don Beckham and Herman Smith
on a fine job on day two. Fellows, ya’ll are good! Congratulations to
Bobby and Doug on Big Fish on day two. Doug caught this 1.87 lb. slab off a top that had not produced
a keeper fish. Doug thought it was a good spot so they went back to it, good move. That unproductive
top gave this team Big Fish of the day and caused them win the Championship.

Folks, it is great that we had new and  different winners at this tournament.  None the top guns at this
event have won a tournament or Big Fish through the regular season. All of the winners here finished the
regular season points race out of the Top Ten. This points out that this Club has some latent talent when
it comes to catching the “Big Mamas”. Actually, every MCC team is capable of winning a tournament.

This has been a really good fishing season and I’ve enjoyed it. Next year should be equally as good.
Let’s make it happen!

MCC is very fortunate each and every year to have strong support from our sponsors. The
money they give helps keep the Club strong and viable.  I encourage every member to
continue to support our sponsors and to get your friends and associates to do the same.

When making a large purchase or any purchase, give our sponsors a crack at your business.
They will appreciate your patronage and the rest of the Club will, too.

Mississippi Wildlife Federation’s Outdoorama on the Rez is scheduled for September 27, 2008 from
10 AM ‘til 4 PM at Turcotte Lab off Hwy 43 at the Ross Barnett Reservoir. MCC members have
volunteered to help man this program since its inception several years ago. This is a fun way to
spend a fall Saturday helping youngsters learn the basics of fishing. Rabbit will be asking for about
thirty volunteers to help with this very worthwhile event. If you’ve not done this before, it  is very
enjoyable. It’ll  give you a good feeling as you share your knowledge with these youngsters. Give
Rabbit a call at 601-829-1552 and volunteer for this fine community service.
On September 19 & 20, 2008 Bass Pro CRAPPIEMASTERS will hold their Mississippi Open State
Championship. Several MCC teams fished this tournament last year and faired very well. This is
your chance to qualify for CRAPPIEMASTERS’ National Championship at Harris Chain of Lakes on
October 15 - 18, 2008. If you need more information call Paul Alpers at  573-280-8020 or 417-532-
0244. You may also visit them at CRAPPIEMASTERS.NET on the worldwide web.
